Ive seen her around 15 times at least here in the UK. In mind mind that was her peak (and its my personal favorite of hers). In a way it would be belittling to her abilities and accomplishments to become an Opry act.. her songs and choice of material always had some depth to it and that is why are we are seeing here and other places the deep feelings that people have for her and her music and she was also a wonderful entertainer. What a wonderful reply. As for her voice hurting peoples ears, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and often in the lyrics of their music. I was aware that Nanci had a hard time in life revealing private history. Saw her some years back in the UK. Keith. She pitched violently forward, landing on hands and knees, almost prone. My respect to all and your freedom of opinion and expression. Lung cancer? But in between songs she would talk about her life, as talk-ups, and there would be infrequent times I knew to be a fictionalization. She is missed; we have her songs, her grace and her memory, still she will always be missed. Ive felt great comfort reading how others loved her and are grieving her. In the end the news of their leaving us reminds me of the passing John Stewart, another of my favorites about this time of year back in 2008. In 2012, the year she released her 18th and final studio album, Intersection, she explained her motivations to The New York Times: I am putting to music and words things that have angered me and hurt me. I knew that was not true. Only was able to see her live on one occasion in Lakewood Ohio back in September of 2001. They used anonymous sources of musicians in Nashville who essentially said she wasnt a nice person. I played the album for guests the next night and there wasnt a dry eye.. Thanks. Im so sad that her life was hard. Thanks for your thoughts and memories. I have read all of the above and am gratified to read that most people feel the same way about Nanci as i do. I have written several poems about losing Nanci. In 1978 she released her debut album, Theres a Light Beyond These Woods, on the local Austin label BF Deal.
