Old Baptist Cemetery (Wright Cemetery)
📍 Orchard Street, Oyster Bay, NY 11771
One of Oyster Bay's oldest surviving burial grounds, hidden on Orchard Street behind white picket fences and overlooked by bedroom windows. The earliest readable stone dates to 1749, though the cemetery was established well before that. Among those buried here are Reverend Marmaduke Earle (whose wife Mary's gravestone has been half-consumed by a tree root), Captain Abraham Van Wyck of the Revolutionary War, and early members of the Townsend and Underhill families who dominated colonial Oyster Bay. A street named for the apple orchard that once stood here, this cemetery is a quiet piece of the town's 17th-century origins.
